What it is

The cost of shipping a new car from the factory to the dealer, set by the manufacturer.

Do you have to pay it?

Yes, on a new car it is normally part of the price and printed on the window sticker. Check that it matches the sticker and is not charged twice.

What to say to the dealer

"Can you confirm the destination charge matches the window sticker?"

Before you sign

Ask for the out-the-door price in writing, with every line itemized. Compare it with other dealers, and don't sign until the buyer's order matches what you agreed.
