What it includes

The out-the-door price is the full amount: the selling price, the dealer's fees and add-ons, the destination charge on a new car, and the taxes and government fees.

Ask by email, line by line

Email several dealers with the exact car you want and ask for an itemized out-the-door price. A written quote is easier to compare than a monthly payment.

Compare the totals, not the payments

A lower monthly payment can hide a longer loan or extra products. Compare the totals, then negotiate the lines you don't want.
